The KillerWhales offer the following comprehensive Squad System

Our comprehensive Squad System enables swimmers in the competition section of the Club to train at a standard and frequency that matches their ability and ambition. Entry into the full squad system is typically via the “Super Group” feeder squad from the Learn to Swim programme however we also welcome new entrants into all of the squads from other areas following a short trial.

The squads swim at the following locations:

Hornchurch Sports Centre, Harrow Lodge Park, Hornchurch, RM11 1JU
Campions School, Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, RM11 3BX.
Central Park Swimming Pool, Gooshays drive, Harold Hill, RM3 9SU
Coopers Company & Coburn School, St Mary’s Lane, Upminster.

The Club has 6 squads each with different entry criteria and a Masters section; The squads are:

The following criteria is set as a guideline only and are always at the discretion of the coaching team. Swimmers should:

Demonstrate and sustain an efficient stroke technique on all four strokes
Perform a dive from racing blocks to achieve the Competitive Start Award
Have an understanding of competitive turns on each racing stroke, plus Medley
Consistently perform tumble turns in training sessions
Maintain a good attendance record and be punctual

All movements between squads will be monitored for a period of one month

Lower Intermediate Squad

Will be used as a transitional group between Lower and Upper Junior Squads
Will be used as a 'sideline' for the less competitive/less committed swimmer
Will have a maximum of six sessions per week available to swimmers, there is no minimum attendance level required

The following criteria is set as a guideline only and are always at the discretion of the coaching team. Swimmers should:

Sustain an efficient stroke technique on all four strokes for a minimum distance of 50m
Consistently perform the appropriate turns in training sessions
Maintain a high level of attendance and be punctual
Be capable of performing a set of "6 x 100m" off of a pre-set time
Show enthusiasm to compete

All movements between squads will be monitored for a period of one month

Upper Intermediate Squad

Will be used as a transitional group between Junior Squads and Senior Squads
Will be used as a 'sideline' for the less competitive/less committed swimmer
Will have a maximum of six sessions per week available to swimmers, there is no minimum attendance level required

The following criteria is set as a guideline only and are always at the discretion of the coaching team. Swimmers must:

Maintain a weekly attendance record of 80% or above and be punctual
Show commitment and enthusiasm towards both training and competition
Be capable of performing a minimum of 1,000m for a T20 and/or to complete a "Deadly Medley" test in under 21 minutes and 30 seconds.
Be capable of performing a set of "8 x 100m @ 1.40" or faster
Have achieved/be close to at least 2 County Qualifying Times (age permitting)

The following criteria is set as a guideline only and are always at the discretion of the coaching team. Swimmers must:

Maintain a weekly attendance record of 80% or above and be punctual
Attend a minimum of ONE land based session per week
Be capable of performing a set of "8 x 100 @ 1:30" or faster
Be capable of achieving County and Regional Qualifying Times (age permitting)
Show a mature attitude towards both training and competition, demonstrating self progression, commitment and dedication to a high level.
